The Sporting Sale 2018
Copley’s Sporting Sale 2018 realized over $5.2 million and was an 96% sold by lot. The sale featured Session III of The Donal C. O’Brien, Jr. Collection of Important American Sporting Art and Decoys, which achieved a 90% sold rate with a record-shattering average of over $41,000 per decoy lot sold. Over a dozen world records were achieved for artists and decoy makers in this historic sale and eight decoy lots sold for six-figure prices. The Earnest-Gregory Dovetailed Goose, the top lot of the sale, surpassed the high estimate and sold for $810,000.
Day two of the Sporting Sale featured works from the Davison B. Hawthorne Collection, the Ronald S. Swanson Collection of Decoys and Fish Models, and the Karl Barry Sharpless Collection.
