The Sporting Sale 2024
Copley would like to thank everyone who participated in the Sporting Sale 2024, which achieved $2 million in sales. It is hard to believe that this was Copley's 19th annual Sporting Sale, and the firm's total sales are approaching the $100-million mark.
Over the last 15 years, Copley has been the most trusted decoy firm in the field and now holds 33 of the “all-time” top 100 decoy results at auction. To put this in context, our nearest competitor, who once enjoyed a virtual monopoly in the field, has placed just 21 during this period.
The Sporting Sale's top lot was the Early Wood Duck Drake by A. Elmer Crowell (1862-1952), which sold for $210,000, nearly doubling the price it achieved at Copley's Sporting Sale 2011.
The top painting lot of the sale was an acrylic depiction of giraffes by Bob Kuhn (1920-2007) which reached $49,200, landing squarely within estimate.
Bronzes by Walter Matia continued to be in high demand; Wild Turkey Pair doubled the high estimate when it came to roost at $18,000. Close on their spurs was Nothing But a Hound Dog, which more than tripled its high estimate, commanding $16,800.
